About me

Dr Zahed Ahmed is a gastroenterologist and general physician who trained in Leeds at St James Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. He moved to Essex in 2011 working as Consultant at Southend University Hospital and was then formally appointed to the post of Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2013.

Dr Ahmed has a expertise in removing large and complex bowel polyps and has a wealth of experience in gastroenterology including conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), oesophageal disorders such as reflux (heartburn) and oesophageal cancer, dyspepsia (indigestion), bowel cancer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, coeliac disease and as well as managing patients with diarrhoea or constipation.

Dr Ahmed is able to offer investigation with Video Capsule Endoscopy which is a non-invasive means of viewing the small bowel and has recently began to carry out Video Colon Capsule Endoscopy in patients where a colonoscopy is considered not to be possible or desirable.

Dr Ahmed is a highly skilled endoscopist performing safe and thorough procedures with minimal amount of discomfort in procedures such as diagnostic gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and sigmoidoscopy as well as advance colonoscopic therapy such as polyp removal (polypectomy and endomucosal resection)
