Dr Sirker is head of department (Clinical Lead) for Cardiology at University College London Hospitals (UCLH), one of the UK's leading teaching hospitals and an internationally recognised academic medical centre. He was appointed as a consultant at UCLH in 2014.

He also works as a Consultant in Interventional Cardiology at St Bartholomew's Hospital in the City of London, where he performs interventional heart procedures, including angioplasty (ballooning) and stenting of the heart arteries, as a treatment for angina and heart attacks.

Dr Sirker is also an Honorary Associate Professor in the Institute of Cardiovascular Science at University College London (UCL).

Dr Sirker studied as an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, where he gained a First Class Honours Degree in Physiology. He progressed to clinical training, also in Cambridge, and graduated as a doctor with triple University Distinctions.

His Cardiology training was undertaken at a number of leading London hospitals including Guy's and St Thomas', Harefield, and the Royal Brompton. His specialist training in Interventional Cardiology was gained at King's College Hospital, London and during a fellowship year in British Columbia, Canada.

He has a broad interest in general adult Cardiology including assessment of symptoms such as chest pains, breathlessness, palpitations, dizziness and faints; also the longer term management of chronic heart conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart valve diseases, high blood pressure and heart failure.

His special interests in Interventional Cardiology include the assessment of coronary artery disease using advanced imaging techniques, such as ultrasound and optical coherence tomography (OCT), to guide treatment.

Dr Sirker won a British Cardiovascular Society fellowship to undertake a PhD at the University of London and he remains active in clinical research, publishing extensively on factors affecting outcomes after heart attacks. He has over 70 peer-reviewed publications in medical journals.
