About me
I am a Clinical Psychologist who works with children, young people and their families.
I obtained a BSc (Hons) in Psychology in 2000 from the University of Southampton and I was awarded my MSc in Health Psychology from the same institution in 2001.
Between 2001 and 2003 I worked as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist for the NHS in a Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in the New Forest, and then in Paediatrics at Southampton General Hospital.
I graduated with my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsychol.) from the University of Southampton in 2008.
I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
I was an Honorary Lecturer in Child and Adolescent Mental Health on the Doctoral Training Programme in Clinical Psychology at the University of Southampton from 2009 to 2019. I was also the NHS representative on the selection panel for the Doctoral Training at the University of Southampton for 10 years.
After completing the taught component of my Doctorate, I started working for the NHS in the Behaviour Resource Service (BRS), a Highly Specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service in Southampton in January 2007.
My role in the team extended across all three ‘arms’ in the service: a service for children who have complex social, educational and mental health needs who require multi-agency assessment and intervention; a service for children with mental health and behavioural problems, often arising from childhood trauma or disrupted attachment, who were in the care of the Local Authority; and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Forensic Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service.
I worked at the BRS until September 2011, when I accepted a Secondment to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Southampton General Hospital where I worked for 18 months. Whilst on Secondment, I also worked in the Paediatric Long-Term Ventilation Team; Paediatric Neurology; Paediatric Oncology; Paediatric Outpatients and Paediatric Diabetes Service.
I returned to my role in the BRS on a part-time basis from April 2013 to October 2016. I had over 15 years of continuous experience of working as a Psychologist within the NHS.
In addition, I have been working as an independent Clinical Psychologist for the last 7 years, and set up our Practice, Forward Thinking with Dr Lucinda Walsh in August 2015, where I now work full-time. This work entails specialist assessment, formulation and intervention with children, young people and their families with complex mental health and behavioural difficulties, and psychological problems arising from physical health problems, in addition to work instructed by the Child and Family Courts. I also provide specialist training, consultation and supervision to professionals from Health, Social Care and Education.
I strive to provide a high quality, friendly and accessible service using evidence-based approaches to meet the needs and goals of the children, young people and families who work with me.
My working hours are Monday to Friday 9 - 5pm. I am unable to offer appointments at weekends.
If you would like an appointment, it is easier for BUPA members to contact our administrator who will put you in touch with us.
