About me
I, Elise Stephen (BAhons, MpsychClin), am a skilled Consultant Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Health Professionals Council (HCPC). I graduated in 2007 from the University of Western Australia, and then worked within both the public and private sectors in Australia. My drive to excel in my work led me to emigrate from Australia to the United Kingdom in 2011. I received a statement of equivalence deeming my credentials equivalent to a UK doctoral degree, allowing me to gain Chartered status with the British Psychological Society (BPS).
I have extensive training and experience in third-wave therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). In March 2018 I became an accredited DBT Therapist. In June 2024 I became a Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) therapist.
I am highly interested in teaching and training and have lectured in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) at an esteemed Australian university. I have also been responsible for supervising psychologists' in training, both in Australia and the UK.
I have been influenced by systemic and psychodynamic theories, and I believe that a solid therapeutic relationship is at the core of all successful therapy endeavours. I am flexible and well-informed regarding evidence-based treatments and can therefore assist clients to find the best possible approach for them, given their individual problems and goals. I am passionate about developing honest and genuine relationships with clients to facilitate positive treatment effects as early as the first meeting.
