About me
I am currently employed as a Consultant Surgeon in Adult Cardiac Surgery at the Oxford Heart Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK. In addition, I hold the positions of Honorary Professor of Cardiac Surgery, Head of the Aortic Surgery Program at Oxford, and I am am the Lead Governor & Clinical Governor for the Oxford University Hospitals NHS FT. I have experience as a Non-executive Director and Governor for Liga College in Oxfordshire and maintain an active interest in business, operating my own limited company and providing consultancy and advisory services to several private equity firms and non-profit organisations.
In my clinical practice, I favour a minimally access approach to all routine cardiac surgical procedures. My subspecialty interests include complex aortic and reconstructive surgery, encompassing aortic valve repair and replacement using both sutures and rapid deployment valves, root reconstruction and replacement techniques, and surgery for complex aortic aneurysms including frozen elephant trunk and endovascular therapies. I also have extensive experience in complex coronary artery revascularisation using both on- and off-pump techniques, with skeletonised internal mammary arteries and minimally invasive or endoscopically harvested peripheral conduits. My practice further extends to arrhythmia surgery, including the Convergent hybrid procedure, as well as surgery for pericardial disease, mitral and tricuspid valve repair and replacement, left ventricular aneurysm and ventricular septal defect reconstruction, pulmonary endarterectomy, and adult congenital heart disease repairs. I am also an active member of the local TAVI team.
Academically, I have multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals (2,122 Research Interest Score, 4,234 Citations, 27 h-index, June 2026) and I continue to contribute actively to both basic and clinical research. Education remains a central part of my professional life. I am involved in teaching undergraduates across four universities, postgraduate doctors and allied health professionals.

I constantly strive to improve my ability to manage both people and resources effectively. Above all, I view teamwork as a fundamental organisational intervention around which institutions can re-engineer themselves for long-term competitive advantage and sustained excellence.
