Professional, compassionate and committed to providing excellent patient care.
I trained in London and North Carolina, and have worked in the NHS as a Consultant at the Royal Free, Barnet, and the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospitals.
I was Vice-President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and a Council Member of the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists. My managerial roles have included Specialty Leads for revalidation and recruitment into anaesthesia, and Training Programme Director.
I recognise that anaesthesia can be scary, especially when it feels like you are no longer in control. I'm happy to talk to you about your personal needs, and answer any specific questions you may have in advance.
Areas of interest
Anaesthesia for ENT, Plastic Surgery, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology and General Surgery. Adults and children.
Current NHS consultant posts held
Consultant Anaesthetist (Honorary), Royal Free Hospital, LONDON NW3 2QG
Multicentre study on Patient Feedback
I chaired a multicentre study looking at Patient Feedback for revalidation purposes for anaesthetists. This required developing specific criteria that were relevant to the doctor-patient relationship in anaesthesia, which is very different to the traditional model in other specialties
Decision-making of anaesthetists
I was involved in a study looking at factors determining anaesthetists decision-making when using neuromuscular blockers
I chaired a working party at the Royal College, initiated after a coroners case, looking at how Difficult Airway Society guidelines on emergency 'Can't Intubate Can't Ventilate' recommendations can be shared with ENT surgeons.
Confirmation of the ability to ventilate by facemask before administration of neuromuscular blocker: a non-instrumental piece of information?
