About me

After completing a Masters in Social Work at Edinburgh University I worked in a wide range of settings: secure units for young people; a residential home for ex-offenders; a drug rehab unit; a homelessness project; various residential homes for people with learning difficulties and also as part of the Emergency Duty Team for Edinburgh Social Services. I then spent a couple of years as a co-facilitator for the Edinburgh Education Department co-ordinating activities for children who had been excluded from school, and subsequently 5 years as a care coordinator within a specialist secondary care mental health team at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital which was where I became more interested in psychology.

Moving to Northumberland in 2001 I was appointed to manage a homelessness project in Northumberland and at the same time I completed a degree in psychology at Newcastle University.

After graduating in psychology I worked as a graduate primary care mental health worker in secondary care and started to use cognitive behavioural therapy on an individual basis as well as deliver psycho-educational courses.

After moving to Somerset in 2007 I applied for a post as an Assistant Psychologist in Neuropsychology and worked with an Older Adults Team then attended postgraduate training in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) at Exeter University after which I worked as a CBT therapist and NHS psychological therapies manager.

I continued my studies by completing a doctorate in counselling psychology at the University of the West of England, Bristol. I am now able to offer private treatment on Friday afternoons and some weekday evenings. If you think I may be able to help you please contact me on 07990 741 480 or emmabonnin@gmail.com.
