Professor Ahmed is an internationally renowned expert in prostate cancer diagnosis, imaging and biopsy as well as minimally invasive therapies for prostate cancer such as HIFU and cryotherapy - either whole-gland or focal therapy for primary prostate cancer or radio-recurrent disease.

In 2018 and 2019 he was named Prostate Cancer Specialist of the Year by Private Healthcare Awards. In 2019, he was made UK Prostate Specialist of the Year by Corporate Awards America.

He has performed hundreds of transperineal prostate biopsies, MRI-targeted prostate biopsies HIFU and cryotherapy treatments. He is of the top two Rezum urologists in the UK.

Professor Ahmed has taught dozens of surgeons in these techniques in the UK and around the world whilst also giving numerous invited lectures in this area.

He has an active research portfolio in prostate disease and has published many of the key papers driving the change in the diagnostic and treatment pathway of prostate cancer.

Professor Ahmed has been visiting professor to University of California, Los Angeles as well as Tokyo, Weill-Cornell and Detroit universities and has given over 30 plenary lectures at national and international urology, oncology and imaging meetings. The team he led recently was awarded the BMJ/BMA Innovation Award 2015 and the Health Services Journal Acute Sector Innovation Award 2016.
