About me
Sanjay Purkayastha is a General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Bariatric & Upper GI Surgery.
He is also a Senior Lecturer in Bariatric Surgery at Imperial College London.
He also routinely carries out surgery for hernias, benign gallbladder conditions, heart burn (acid reflux) and other benign general surgical conditions.
Bariatric / metabolic surgery is for the treatment of obesity and it’s related conditions such as to help type 2 diabetes, infertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome, obstructive sleep apnoea and even high blood pressure as examples.
Areas of interest
Hernia Surgery: laparoscopic and open. Primary and recurrent hernias. Types of hernia surgery - Inguinal, femoral, paraumbilical, umbilical, incisional, port site, epigastric, sphigelian and lumbar hernias all approached both laparoscopically and open if necessary.
Gallbladder surgery: laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Anti-reflux surgery: for heart burn and hiatus hernias
Bariatric (weight loss) surgery: laparoscopic gastric bands, sleeve gastrectomies and gastric bypass surgeries. Revision baroatroc surgery.
Emergency general surgery - for appendicitis, bowel obstruction, hernias, small and large bowel pathologies and trauma.
