About me
Professor Thozhukat Sathyapalan ('Sathya') is the Chair in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism and an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist in Hull. With extensive expertise in managing complex endocrine and metabolic disorders, he is highly regarded for delivering expert, personalised care.
Professor Sathyapalan completed specialist training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General (Internal) Medicine in Aberdeen and the Yorkshire Deanery, followed by a postgraduate research fellowship at the University of Hull under Professor Stephen Atkin. Since joining the University of Hull and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Senior Lecturer in 2009, he became a Reader in 2012 and was appointed Chair in Endocrinology in 2016.
His clinical expertise spans thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, pituitary and neuroendocrine tumours, alongside diabetes, obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Known for his meticulous approach and ability to manage complex cases, he provides personalised, patient-focused care informed by the latest advancements in medical science.
Professor Sathyapalan has extensive experience in clinical trials and research in diabetes and endocrinology, with more than 380 peer-reviewed publications. His work has significantly advanced understanding and treatment of metabolic and endocrine disorders, including neuroendocrine tumours, influencing clinical practice and improving patient outcomes.
As a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh and the American College of Physicians, he is actively involved in organisations such as the American Endocrine Society, British Endocrine Society, the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists, and the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society.
