About me
I work with a wide range of client groups of varying presentations including anxiety, depression, PTSD, phobias, interpersonal problems and I also undertake assessment cases. Presently the majority of clinical work that I undertake is with clients who have endured multiple episodes of trauma and abuse, often during childhood. As such, I often work with clients described as having personality disorders or chronic difficulties linked to interpersonal trauma such as self-harm, for example, cutting, overdoses, binge drink/drug taking etc. Given the complex nature of the client group, I use a wide range of assessment techniques (primarily focusing on building a therapeutic alliance and boundary setting) to develop a coherent formulation of the individual and their presentation. I also work with adult clients who have been diagnosed with a learning disability and other difficulties such as Autistic Spectrum Disorders. I provide staff support, consultation and training to teams working within Learning Disability services.
I have experience of undertaking legal assessments for both private and family law work focusing on building a clear understanding of the client’s presentation and how this impacts within the wider family system on areas such as attachment and parenting. I also have experience of giving evidence to the courts within family law proceedings.
I have an interest in psychological trauma, and have experience of providing assessment and reports for legal purposes of psychological injury for both young people and adults within proceedings related to personal injury and medical negligence.
Therapeutically I offer interventions that aim to work towards the clients’ goals whilst being mindful of the need to work in a time conscious manner and manage risks that are in line with local and national guidance. I work with clients using a variety of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and psychodynamic models. I aim to use collaborative approaches that respect the client’s unique place in the world whilst working with the differences and similarities that exist between us in our working relationship. The majority of work I undertake is individual therapy but I also undertake group work.
