About me
Mr Adam Ajis is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon with a dedicated special interest in disorders of the foot and ankle. He treats all conditions from routine to complex with no problem being too small. Surgical and non surgical options will be given where possible and a personalised treatment plan will be offered. Mr Ajis understands that every patient is unique and every treatment plan will be tailored to their specific situation. His qualities of care, compassion and good communication will ensure every patient receives treatment of the highest standard and that every patient understands his/her condition and how different treatments work.
Training
Mr Ajis completed his higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedic surgery in Cheshire/Merseyside, culminating in achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS (Tr & Orth). Here he developed an interest in foot & ankle surgery and was awarded a place on one of the most sought after and highly regarded international foot & ankle training fellowships at the Institute for Foot & Ankle Reconstruction in the USA. Following this, further fellowship training was undertaken with one of the most experienced foot & ankle surgeons in the UK. Being dual fellowship trained has meant that Mr Ajis is familiar with the latest cutting edge treatments with experience in complex foot & ankle reconstruction surgery, ankle replacement surgery, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) for the foot and for the ankle, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy, shockwave therapy, sports injuries, enhanced recovery regimes as well as bunion and lesser toe surgery.
Mr Ajis adopts a minimally invasive approach to his practice. He is an expert in minimally invasive techniques for a wide range of conditions and will offer this approach in the first instance if it is likely to be successful.
Teaching & Research
Throughout his career Mr Ajis has maintained a keen interest in research. Starting at medical school he was successful in gaining a Bachelor in Medical Science degree with honours BMedSc(Hons Physiol) in addition to his medical degree MBChB. Primarily motivated by a desire to add to the field of foot & ankle surgery, Mr Ajis has published a large number of research papers in high impact factor peer reviewed journals including review articles and book chapters. He has represented his specialty on a national level at the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) UK.
Throughout his career Mr Ajis has won a number of prizes and awards for academic distinctions and travelling fellowships. He has delivered many educational presentations to surgeons at local, national and international meetings. he has led many audit projects that have resulted in safer surgery, improved patient outcomes and a significantly better patient experience. Mr Ajis constantly monitors his own practice keeping up to date, recording patient outcomes and acting on patient feedback.
Mr Ajis is an enthusiastic educator. He is an interviewer and examiner at Brighton & Sussex Medical School and is involved with training the next generation of doctors from medical students to senior registrars. He is also a faculty member on a number of training courses in foot & ankle surgery held throughout the country and internationally.
