About me
As a Counselling Psychologist with over 26 years of experience in mental health and psychological therapy, I offer a warm, thoughtful and highly personalised approach to therapy.
I am trained to work across a range of therapeutic approaches rather than within a single model. This means I can adapt therapy to the individual person, rather than expecting the person to fit one way of working. I work within a pluralistic framework, recognising that different people benefit from different approaches at different times in their lives.
I moreover have substantial experience of working with children and adolescents, incorporating art and play in our work.
I have experience working with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including anxiety, depression, acute or complex trauma, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, gender issues, identity and cultural issues, grief, burnout and life transitions and school/education related- difficulties. I've been working with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, religious and social backgrounds across the lifespan, and I place importance on understanding each person within the wider context of their life and experiences.
Together, we may explore emotions, relationships, past experiences, coping strategies, identity, culture and life patterns in ways that feel meaningful and helpful to you. My aim is to help people understand themselves more deeply and compassionately, rather than simply focusing on labels or diagnoses.
Alongside my clinical practice, I train counselling psychologists and psychotherapists at doctoral level within UK higher education and remain actively involved in research. This keeps my work informed by the latest developments in evidence-based practice, while grounded in extensive clinical experience.
A significant proportion of my clients come through word-of-mouth referrals, reflecting the quality of the therapeutic relationships I build and the meaningful progress clients feel they have achieved through our work together.
I understand that seeking therapy can feel like a significant step, and I value the trust involved in that process. At the heart of my work is a collaborative, respectful and reflective therapeutic relationship, with warmth and genuine interest, where people can feel heard, understood and supported at their own pace.
