About me
-Graduated from The University of Nottingham Medical School with the Hay-Shunker prize in Clinical Surgery, and the Smith, Kline & Beecham Prize in Clinical Epidemiology.
-Obtained medical degrees BM BS and science degree BMedSci.
-Trained in centres of excellence throughout England and completed Higher Surgical Training in Newcastle and Nottingham.
-Completed a 1 year fellowship at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Australia working with world leaders in the fields of ENT, Rhinology and sleep disordered breathing surgery.
-Broad training in ENT including Otology, Neurotology, Paediatrics, Head & Neck surgery, Phonosurgery, Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base surgery. I perform operations such as Grommet insertion, Adenotonsillectomy, Septoplasty, Nasal Polyps surgery, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Tear duct surgery, Palate surgery, Septorhinoplasty, Myringoplasties, Neck procedures, Endoscopic skull base procedures, Craniofacial approaches, utilising modern techniques and tools including coblation and balloon technology.
-Commenced as a Consultant in Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Sheffield Children's Hospital NHS Trust in 2007.
-Further specialist training in Europe and America.
-Presented and published nationally and internationally, including book chapters, on a range of subjects such as nasal surgery, sinonasal tumours, skull base reconstruction, barotrauma and cochlear implants.
Actively involved in teaching, training and have been on a number of course faculties.
-Mr Showkat Mirza is married with 2 children and enjoys football, photography and watching films with the family
