About me
Mr Shyamalan is a renowned Consultant Hand, Wrist and Elbow Surgeon based in the West Midlands. As the Director of the Midland Hand Clinic, he leads a dedicated private service providing expert upper limb care to patients across Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, and Warwickshire. He also holds a senior role at The University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, where he trains other surgeons.
Expertise and specialist care
Mr Shyamalan offers a comprehensive and personalised service, treating a wide range of conditions with the latest techniques, including keyhole surgery and wide-awake surgery. His specialties include:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Dupuytren's disease (contracture)
- Trigger finger
- Hand and wrist arthritis
- Complex nerve problems & soft tissue trauma
- Joint replacement
- Children's hand problems
Advanced procedures & commitment to excellence
As an experienced orthopaedic hand surgeon, Mr Shyamalan also treats complex upper-limb fractures in the shoulder and elbow, including conditions such as tennis elbow and golfer's elbow. He is one of a small number of surgeons in the UK who performs a high volume of arthroscopic scaphoid surgery.
His love for hand, wrist and elbow surgery was inspired by a scaphoid fracture he sustained while playing rugby. This led him to undertake rigorous fellowship training at three world-class units: Ganga Hospital in India, the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, and The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.
Patient centred approach
Mr Shyamalan's core philosophy is to provide an individualised, expert service. He works with a multidisciplinary team to ensure every patient receives a bespoke treatment plan, with careful consideration given to both surgical and non-surgical options.
His aim is to help you restore function and get back to the activities you love.
