About me

Mr Rono Mukherjee is a Consultant Urological Surgeon, currently practising in the Spire Cheshire Private Hospital. His NHS practice is based at the Department of Urology, Salford Royal.

He specialises in general adult urological problems, urinary tract infections, male prostatic symptoms (LUTS/BPH), investigations for PSA/prostate cancer, haematuria (blood in urine), female incontinence, impotence, penile and testicular problems. He has a sub-specialist interest in kidney stone disease (endourology), as well as performing Urolift procedures for BPH.

Mr Mukherjee is heavily involved in Urological surgical teaching and training. He currently sits on the Specialty Advisory Committee in Urology - overseeing National Training in Urological Surgery. He is also a Station Lead for National Recruitment in Urology, which is responsible for appointing Specialty Trainees nationwide every year, and is an Examiner and Question Writing Panellist for the FRCS(Urol) examination (sat by all trainees prior to becoming a Consultant). Mr Mukherjee was elected onto the Executive Committee of the British Association of Urological Surgery Section of Endourology.
He is an ex-Training Programme Director for Urology for the Region, rSpecialty Registrars in their final years of surgical training. He has published and presented nationally and internationally in the fields of urological research, case reports and educational development. He was voted Regional Urological Trainer of the Year in 2022 and has been previously nominated for the Northwest Surgical Trainer of the year overall.

Mr Mukherjee graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 1997. He went on to complete his Pre-Registration house jobs at the Professorial Units of Surgery and Medicine at the Western Infirmary Glasgow, before entering Basic Surgical Training on the West of Scotland Training rotation. He successfully submitted his M.D. thesis on new molecular treatment pathways for prostate cancer in 2005 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

He then moved to Manchester upon entering Higher Surgical Training in Urology as part of the North-West regional Rotation. Mr Mukherjee became a consultant in 2010 at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust before joining Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2011, becoming Clinical Director for the Unit for over 7 years. In 2022, he was invited to join the Team in the Urology Department at Salford Royal, Manchester. He commenced this post in 2023.
