About me
Trained as a General Surgeon with a Special Interest in Breast, Julie Doughty was appointed Consultant Breast Surgeon at the Western Infirmary Glasgow in 1998, one of the biggest clinical and academic cancer units in Scotland. This unit and its staff has now relocated to Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow and has merged with the south breast unit making it the biggest unit in the West of Scotland. Julie is Chair of the multidisciplinary meeting (MDT) here.
She has held many National positions and was President of the Association of Breast Surgery 2019 - 2021 and steered the breast community through the Covid pandemic. She is an elected member of the British Breast Group.
Julie continues to publish extensively on all aspects of breast disease but has a particular interest in extending the role of breast conservation and minimising axillary surgery in patients with breast cancer. She has a particular interest in personalising breast cancer care and managing toxicities associated with breast cancer treatments.She is also a member of numerous guideline groups and is presently updating the UK guidance for management of the axilla.
