About me
Nima Heidari is an expert orthopaedic and trauma surgeon who specialises in treating all conditions of foot and ankle including sports injuries, fractures as well as arthritis and deformity. He also treats complications of previous surgery such as infection related to fracture fixation and osteomyelitis. He has set up the bone infection and limb reconstruction unit at The Royal London Hospital, the largest trauma centre in the UK and one the busiest in Europe.
He has recently been awarded a Visiting Professorship at the George Emil Palade University of Medicine in Targu Mures.
Professor Heidari’s guiding principle is to put the patient at the centre of his approach to care. Arriving at the correct diagnosis is key. This requires patience and open mindedness to listen, assess and examine the patient in order to understand the true nature of their problem. He is in the privileged position of having many referrals from colleagues both in his NHS and private practice where the patients have had a complication or have a complex problem requiring his unique and specialist skills.
He works with a group of internationally acclaimed surgeons and doctors: Orthopaedic Specialists. In the setting of this exceptional multi-disciplinary team, patients are guaranteed a quick and accurate diagnosis and a personalised care plan.
Author of over 80 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and several book chapters, Professor Heidari has written extensively about all aspects of foot and ankle injuries and their treatment as well as techniques for limb reconstruction and minimally invasive techniques of fracture fixation. He has a particular interest in joint preservation for arthritis with the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence to improve and enhance the accuracy of clinical decisions, reduce risk by mitigating bias and guiding treatment. He has developed and published on proprietary machine-learning predictive algorithms which mitigate less-represented-class bias in data.
He is very aware of the profound effect foot and ankle pain or injury can have on a person’s quality of life. The foot is an extremely complex organ with many possible sources of pain and dysfunction. The approach to each individual’s problem needs to be bespoke to deal with their unique set of issues, whether surgical or non-surgical, he aims to provide his patients with the best and most optimal treatment.
