About me
Assessment and Therapy
Ailsa Smith has 22 years of experience working in the NHS as a Clinical Psychologist with children and their families. She undertakes psychological assessment (clinical and neuropsychological) and intervention with children and their families presenting with a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. She adopts an integrative approach and draws on psychological models and theories such as systemic theory, behavioural theory, cognitive theory, attachment theory, and solution focused approaches. She has a specialist interest children on the Autistic Spectrum and other Neuro -Developmental disorders, including children with Moderate, Severe and Profound Learning Disability. She is trained and experienced in the use of ADOS and running EarlyBird and Cygnet programmes.
She is trained and experienced in the delivery of Parent Child Game and Incredible Years as well as individual approaches to the management of difficult behaviour.
Trauma
Ailsa Smith undertakes assessment and therapy for individuals following trauma, (e.g. road traffic accidents, physical assault, accidents at work/school, and witnessing distressing incidents). This has included work focussing on clients’ return to school/work/ work related activity. Ailsa draws from a range of therapeutic models, including CBT, and systemic models and is completing EMDR training.
