About me
Mr Barnes Morgan is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in the care of patients with disorders of the shoulder and the elbow. His special interests include arthroscopic (key-hole) surgery for soft tissue tendon injuries, shoulder instability and joint replacement surgery for shoulder arthritis. Mr Morgan has a specialist interest in both sports injuries and degenerative conditions of the shoulder. He has an advanced practice in the management of complex tendon injuries and irreparable tendon injuries. He also provides surgical treatments for tennis and golfer’s elbow (including PRP injections) and has expertise in the treatment of fractures and traumatic injuries to the shoulder.
Mr Morgan developed his expertise from holding UK shoulder fellowship posts at Stepping Hill Hospital, followed by an upper limb fellowship at the internationally renowned Wrightington Upper Limb Unit.
Mr Morgan performs office shoulder ultrasound when appropriate. This provides immediate diagnostic information to patients at their first clinic appointment, speeding the process of diagnosis and therefore treatment of diseases and injuries.
In addition to his surgical qualifications, he has a BSc in Neuroscience and an MSc in Trauma Surgery. Mr Morgan lectures nationally and internationally on shoulder surgery and is involved in running a national arthroscopic shoulder surgery course. He is passionate about teaching & training and was honoured to be nominated by his trainees for a Health Education England School of Surgery Excellence in Education Award 2019-20.
My Morgan’s innovative, outcome-led practice is represented by his regular publications in international peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international meetings. He has an active interest in research and regularly publishes in medical journals and was part of the team who were awarded the Ian Kelly Prize for research at BESS Dublin 2016.
In 2018, he was awarded a GHP Private Healthcare Award for Best Sports Injury Therapy Specialists for North West England & in 2019 was awarded “Leaders in Sports Injury Treatment 2019 – North West England”. His expertise in healthcare delivery has been recognised by Stepping Hill Hospital in granting him 3 Clinical Excellence Award Points
