Therapeutic Approach
An integrative relational approach entails the integration of chosen theories from different schools of psychotherapy. My integration includes psychodynamic, developmental, humanistic and existential perspectives.
The relational aspect focuses on the nature of the therapeutic relationship between therapist and client, and also how you relate to yourself, others and the world.
Psychotherapy offers an opportunity for personal development, or to explore a crisis or difficulties, which may result in changes in the way you feel, think and behave.
The aim is to increase self-awareness and help you discover your own way forward. My practice is based on the belief that everyone has the capacity to develop their own potential and work towards living in a more satisfying way.
The first appointment is an assessment session, to see whether therapy with me will be appropriate to your needs and is therefore without obligation on either side. If we decide to proceed we normally agree to meet for up to six sessions, with a joint review on the fifth session where further sessions may be agreed upon. You are always in charge of the process and can stop at any stage, although it is important to have a planned ending to your therapy.
The therapeutic relationship is an active working partnership and regular commitment to your therapy is needed. Sessions are 50 minutes long and are usually weekly at a regular time.
I am accredited by both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy* and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy* as an Integrative Psychotherapist.
* I am bound by their ethical frameworks for good practice and am subject to their professional conduct procedures. I attend regular supervision and on-going professional development.
