About me
Mr Clarke works as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Nuffield Health Shrewsbury Hospital and at the Royal Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. He is a dedicated clinician and surgeon with excellent outcomes who always endeavours to deliver a first class, safe service to his patients.
Mr Clarke graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (Imperial College London) in 1998 and has been a consultant surgeon in Shropshire since 2011. His early surgical training was predominantly on the South Coast of England, as well as in Perth, Western Australia. Mr Clarke's higher surgical training was completed within the Wessex region. Prior to consultant appointment he undertook a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic and colorectal surgery at the National Training Unit based at Bradford Royal Infirmary Teaching Hospital.
Mr Clarke has published and delivered presentations nationally. He has held the role of trainer and mentor on national courses teaching other consultants advanced techniques in laparoscopic bowel cancer surgery as well as hernia surgery. Mr Clarke is an accredited Trainer for the National Training Programme in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery. At Shrewsbury Mr Clarke is the Clinical Lead Surgeon for the Royal College of Surgeons of England Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship
Professional interests:
Mr Clarke specialises in general and colorectal surgery and has a specific interest in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical techniques as well as enhanced recovery after surgery. He offers specialist care in all aspects of colon and rectal cancer surgery.
As a regional expert in management of Early Rectal Cancer, Mr Clarke is one of two surgeons in Shropshire who performs surgery for Early Rectal cancer using the minimally invasive transanal endoscopic approach.
Mr Clarke has extensive experience colorectal surgery including the management of diverticular disease, all minor proctology including pilonidal sinus with limberg flap reconstruction, haemorrhoids (banding, HALO, Haemorrhoidectomy) and anal fissure and fistula disease.
Mr Clarke also provides a comprehensive general surgical service including laparoscopic incisional and groin hernia surgery (performing both laparoscopic TEP and TAP operations). He has instructed and taught these techniques on national hernia masterclass courses.
