About me

Mr. Sudhanshu Chitale is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Whittington Health NHS Trust, London. He is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor for the University College London (UCL) Medical School.

He has received comprehensive training both in India and the UK in all subspecialties of Urology, and has gained extensive experience over many years in this field. He has also received several awards for academic achievements during his training.

Sudhanshu has performed over 18,000 Urological operative procedures ranging from cystoscopies to cystectomies. He has special expertise in procedures involving the lower urinary tract including prostatic, bladder, penile and urethral surgery.

His wide surgical skills and expertise include procedures for phimosis, hydrocele, epididymal lesions, varicoceles, testicular tumours, urethral surgery, surgery for male infertility, sperm retrieval procedures (M-TESE, TESE, MESA), vasectomy, reversal of vasectomy, surgery for Peyronie's disease and congenital penile deformities, endoscopic prostatic and bladder tumour resections, endoscopic treatment for urinary stones and Urological procedures for children including circumcision, orchidopexy for undescended testis, and hydrocelectomy for patent processus vaginalis.

He is published widely in peer-reviewed journals with around 80 publications to his credit, and also has several presentations at national and international meetings. He has been the principal author for the first ever randomised controlled trial (RCT) on shock wave therapy (SWT) for Peyronie's disease. He is also a referee to many scientific journals and a guest editor for a web based journal.

In addition, Sudhanshu has been actively involved in teaching Undergraduates, Postgraduates, General Practitioners and Pharmaceutical/Nursing professionals by means of lectures/seminars/bedside-teaching for many years. He has been a well-respected and popular tutor amongst medical students and trainees. He has been a proud recipient of the Top Teacher award and Excellence in Medical Education award at the UCL Medical School. He currently acts as an MBBS examiner for UCL Medical School and has done so previously at UEA Medical School in Norwich.

He has also served as a member of the faculty for the Operative Skills in Urology Course conducted by the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCSE) for several years.

Sudhanshu is a keen badminton player and represented his University in India. He enjoys swimming, theatre and travel.
