About me

Prof Somani has worked as a consultant endourologist in South of England since 2012. He is the ‘Clinical Director of South Coast Lithotripter services’ and the ‘Endourology Lead’ for the hospital. He has performed more than 2500 Ureteroscopy procedures.

He is the 'Editor in Chief' of 'Journal of Clinical Urology' (JCU) which is the official journal of British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS).

His main interests are in benign prostate disorders, urinary tract infections, kidney stone disease, haematuria (blood in urine) and general urology.

Prof Somani has developed a portfolio of activities to raise public awareness of the symptoms, prevention and treatment of kidney stones, including BBC Radio 4's Inside Health programme, BBC South television and ITV Meridian news.

Benign Prostate hyperplasia (BPH) â€“ Prof Somani has published extensively (20 papers) on minimally invasive benign prostate treatments including Prostate artery embolization (PAE), Urolift (prostate stapling), Rezum (prostate steam), Aquablation (robotic prostate surgery) and laser prostate surgery (HoLEP, ThuVEP).

Kidney stones â€“ Prof Somani is one of the most published surgeons in the world with primary and secondary research in prevention and treatment of stone disease.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) â€“ Prof Somani has published research (12 papers) on simple and complex UTIs.
Haematuria (Blood in urine) â€“ Prof Somani has published research (10 papers) on haematuria and its management.
