About me

My name is Diomidis, or Dio for short. I am a highly experienced Consultant Psychologist with over 25 years of experience. For 19 of those years, and counting, I have been working in a variety of NHS services.

After all these years I remain very passionate about getting to know people, understand their challenges and help, support or guide them to overcome them.

Yes, that is possible. And I am hoping that if you are here, you believe that too. I appreciate that often, current problems are a part of, or the outcome of, long standing patterns going all the way back to childhood. This is tricky as it could instil a sense of hopelessness almost, believing that 'things will always be this way'. But they don't have to. Of course, if you don't take any action at all, you risk repeating the same patterns, experiencing the same feelings and ending up even more depressed and hopeless in the process.

So, listen to your suffering, try to avoid blaming and criticising yourself and reach out. Be gentle with yourself and try to go against any avoidance. Let's make sense of it all, together, and you'll see that even the most upsetting aspects of your behaviours, feelings or personality can and do make sense. Then we could address it all so that you don't feel trapped by old patterns and feelings. It is worth it, and it is possible.

Self-criticisms/self-blame are not worth it on the other hand. They won't keep you on the 'straight and narrow' as you think. They will only make you feel worse. If listening to your internal critic was working, you would not be here trying to find a therapist today.

My main approach is Schema Therapy and I have been fully trained and practising this since 2013. However, the priority in therapy is always your needs, not the model. Any therapy model simply needs to be flexible enough to address your needs.
