About me
Mr Ben Cresswell is a Consultant Surgeon, with a special interest in liver, pancreatic and gallstone disease and the surgical oncology of metastatic cancers that have spread to the lymph nodes and soft-tissues of the abdomen.
Mr Cresswell trained in Scotland, London and the South East and has spent time in surgical units in Japan and the USA. He is currently a Consultant Surgeon at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also the Medical Director for Surgical, Anaesthetic, Critical Care and Oncology services.
He has a substantial research and clinical background in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, liver cancer and the care of diseases relating to the liver and pancreas. His regular clinical practice is in complex gallstone disease, pancreatitis and specialist surgery for a range of malignant and benign conditions of the liver and pancreas, including bile duct injuries. He also offers surgical resection of tumours that have either spread to or recurred in deep abdominal lymph nodes.
He has a further interest in hernia repair, including complex abdominal wall defects and is happy to offer a range of laparoscopic or open operations for these conditions.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Cresswell is an Honorary Lecturer and Laparoscopic Tutor at the Cuschieri Skills Centre, the Clinical Editor of Surgery journal and a regular reviewer for several other publications. He is a past member of council of the Royal College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgeons and a Past President of the Section of Surgery of the Royal Society of Medicine.
Mr Cresswell is fully compliant with all COVID-19 precautions and as the lead for the restoration of elective surgical services for Hampshire Hospitals during the pandemic, has oversight for the introduction of all national guidance.
