About me

Mrs Katya Tambe is Consultant ophthalmologist at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals, NHS Trust, specialising in Oculoplastics, periocular aesthetic surgery and cataract.

My expertise lies in the treatment of patients with oculoplastic, cataract and periocular cosmetic problems.

I have been a consultant at the Nottingham University Hospitals since 2010 following a year-long prestigious Fellowship at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. Oculoplastics and cataract surgery have inspired and fascinated me ever since my ophthalmology training days at the Birmingham and Midlands eye Centre, where I undertook my core training. In my endeavour to give the best possible treatment to my patients in my chosen fields, I also undertook Fellowships at Leicester, The Birmingham Children’s Hospital and overseas in Toronto and Philadelphia and most recently at UCLA, Los Angeles in 2019, a centre for excellence in cosmetic surgery.

I specialise in personalised aesthetic surgery with a focus on natural outcomes with minimal surgical intervention. I also have a vast experience in treating children with oculoplastic conditions. Being a member of the British Oculoplastic Society (BOPSS) and having trained in the intricacies of the eyelids and the periocular region, I am well placed to manage cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and eyebrows.

As regards cataract surgery, I am a member of the UKISCRS (UK& Ireland Cataract & Refractive Surgery Society) I offer surgery as per individual patient needs, be it topical anaesthesia (eye drops only) to the appropriate choice of lens. I undertake complex cataract surgery in the NHS, making me well placed to effectively manage cataracts.

I am regularly invited as a guest speaker to national and international meetings and conduct training courses. At NUH, I train international and national Fellows. I review articles for publication in journals and have published in peer reviewed scientific journals. Currently I co-head the department of Ophthalmology at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.

In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors, especially trekking and my latest achievement was summiting Kang Yatse 2, a 6250m peak in the Western Himalayas in September 2019.

Clinical interests are in the management of adult patients with: Eyelid malpositions like ptosis, entropion, ectropion, dermatochalasis - requiring blepharoplasty; Periocular skin tumours; Watery eyes; Thyroid related eyelid abnormalities; Eyelid and adnexal trauma; Socket related problems; Cataracts; General ophthalmic eye conditions;

Her cosmetic surgery specialisation includes, removal of excess skin +/- fat from the upper or lower eyelids (blepharoplasty), adjustment of upper lid height and appearance as well as removal of periocular skin lesions. She specialises in personalised aesthetic surgery with a focus on natural outcomes with minimal surgical intervention.

She has a vast experience in cataract surgery spanning over 25 years and undertakes complex cataract surgery at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
