About me
Mr Ben Lindsey is a consultant general, vascular and renal transplant surgeon based in London and working at the Royal London Hospital.
Mr Lindsey trained as a general, vascular and renal transplant surgeon in the UK and South Africa. Following the completion of his UK training, he undertook fellowships at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town, in both trauma and transplant surgery before moving to Eerste River Hospital in Stellenbosch to work as a single-handed general surgeon. He was later appointed as the first dual NHS accredited vascular AND renal transplant surgeon in London, working at the Royal Free Hospital before moving to Barts to replicate the same clinical practice.
He typically sees patients with arterial and venous disease. These include diabetic foot problems, leg ulcers, arterial circulation problems in the leg, abdomen and neck as well as varicose veins.
He also undertakes dialysis access operations - fistulas and peritoneal dialysis catheters as well as a significant number of kidney transplants in conjunction with his colleague Prof Vass Anastassiou (London's second vascular AND transplant surgeon).
Mr Lindsey has received research funding from the EPSRC to develop technology to improve the lives of patients on dialysis.
Mr Lindsey has considerable expertise in designing and delivering unplanned surgeries. He also has a track record of training surgeons in operative surgery both in the UK and overseas.
Mr Lindsey has appeared in the media participating in and commentating on a live kidney transplant on Channel 5 in 2019.
