Shanks Gurjar practices as a Consultant Laparoscopic Colorectal & General Surgeon at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

He has a special interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) gastrointestinal surgery for bowel cancer (colon and rectum), inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), diverticular disease, and rectal prolapse.

He has specialist expertise in laparoscopic and open groin hernia surgery (inguinal, umbilical, femoral, spigelian) and abdominal incisional hernia repair.

He offers treatment for all common coloproctological conditions including haemorrhoids (THD and Rafaelo), anal fistula surgery, pilonidal sinus, and anal fissure.

He is an accredited endoscopist with expertise in advanced colonoscopy and polypectomy.

He graduated from St Marys Hospital, London and then completed surgical training in the South-East Thames region, before a fellowship in pelvic floor surgery at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. He has a strong academic interest in clinical surgery and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals.

He is an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and trains young surgeons in advanced keyhole surgery.

He holds practising privileges at hospitals in North London and Hertfordshire.
