About me
I qualified in 1997 from Guy's and St Thomas' hospital's London and subsequently moved to Wessex and remained here throughout my training. This gave me an excellent exposure to a wide variety of general surgical and colorectal conditions and I worked in specialist areas such as intestinal failure and pelvic floor. After completing my training I was appointed as a fellow at Basingstoke to gain further experience in Pseudomyxoma and advanced colorectal surgery, along with honing my Laparoscopic skills.
I have been a consultant now for 11 years and have a practice at Dorset County Hospital and The Winterbourne Hospital. I have a broad range of interests but particularly have demonstrated excellent outcomes for major bowel surgery for both cancer and benign conditions. I also have an interest in performing local anaesthetic hernia surgery. I am a fully trained endoscopist and registered with JAG. I have recently started performing a novel technique for rectal cancer surgery at Dorset County Hospital. This is called Transanal TME and I was selected from a national application process to train in this. This surgery will deliver better specimens and oncological outcomes and hopefully through research we will demonstrate better functional outcomes from this major surgery.
I am the lead for Colorectal services across Dorset engaging the clinicians from all three secondary care trusts (Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth). I also locally lead our MDT for colon cancer at Dorset County Hospital.
