About me
I am a practising University Hospital Physician and Divisional Clinical director for Infection, where I am responsible for seeing patients with haematological malignancy in all stages of their often long and difficult treatment.
My specific inpatient expertise therefore lies in Infections in the Immunosuppressed.
I am also co-Principal Investigator in a National Institutes of Health Programme Grant relating to rapid diagnostics for optimal antibiotic choices.
I have a great belief in limiting the unnecessary and often damaging use of antibiotics.
I also (having a PhD in Immunology) am very interested in patients with genuine Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and I and a haematology colleague have recently uncovered some novel diagnostic modalities, which may explain the Syndrome.
I in addition believe that (the correct) probiotics can offer many health advantages, when deployed appropriately.
Finally, I counsel patients who have been given a diagnosis of Lyme disease; this is fallacious in about 75% of cases.
Areas of interest
Chronic fatigue; Diagnosed Lyme Disease;Chronic urinary tract infection; MRSA carriage; Zika virus risk profiling; Toxic shock syndromes; antibiotic resistance
