About me

Anna Bhan is a Consultant ophthalmic surgeon with specialist expertise in cataract and glaucoma surgery. She also deals with general ophthalmology and many other eye conditions.

She runs a busy glaucoma service at the Central Middlesex Hospital where she regularly trains junior eye surgeons and allied health professionals. She offers extensive expertise and experience in the treatment of all adult glaucoma including surgery with the latest implants and stents. She also practices general ophthalmology including cataract surgery and many other conditions.

Anna is a UK trained consultant ophthalmologist with over 16 years Consultant experience in general and complex subspecialty work, including glaucoma, high risk cases, ethnic minorities and comorbidities. She is committed and passionate about delivering clinical excellence and innovation to her patients, furthering knowledge through academic research and developing successful, relevant junior ophthalmologist training programs.

Her clinical background has been underpinned by glaucoma fellowships with Mr Eamonn O’Neill and Professor Peter Shah in Birmingham, and a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship with Mr Mike Burdon. From these foundations, she has become expert in the implementation and running of virtual clinics, also augmenting links with community optometrists to undertake shared care, referral refinement schemes, and minor eye conditions clinics.

She has undertaken and is interested in basic science and clinical research. She has been an investigator on both academic and industry sponsored studies, as well as set up her own research. She has published over 30 peer reviewed manuscripts, a BMJ book, and 26 congress posters. She has given 15 oral presentations at regional, national and international congresses and 14 invited talks.

With regards to training, she was one of the first glaucoma consultants to trial new simulated glaucoma surgical models, and is now the Regional Simulation Lead for North West London. She also teaches on the Royal College microsurgical skills course.
