About me
Miss Katharine Bevan was appointed to Bedford Hospital as a Consultant in laparoscopic colorectal and general surgery in 2011. She is the Clinical Director for General and Colorectal surgery and the Colorectal Cancer lead at Bedford Hospital. She is trained in Robotic assisted surgery.
She provides a surgical service for General and Colorectal surgery. Conditions treated include benign conditions such as hernias, gallbladder surgery, anal fistula, anal fissure, haemorrhoids or piles, and pilonidal disease. Investigation of change in bowel habit and rectal bleeding including colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy.
Her special interests are in major surgery for colorectal cancer and benign colorectal conditions (such as diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease).
Miss Bevan qualified from The Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine (University of London) in 1998 having also completed a BSc in Clinical Immunology. She completed her Basic surgical training on the south coast in Bournemouth, Poole and Southampton hospitals. Her higher surgical training was in the Wessex region at Portsmouth, Southampton, Salisbury and Bournemouth Hospitals. Her final year of training was completed in Basingstoke Hospital, a tertiary referral centre for both low rectal cancer (TME) and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei. During this time she attained her CCST.
Miss Bevan was appointed as the Covidien laparoscopic colorectal fellow at Basingstoke in 2009. During this year as well as personally gaining experience in all aspects of laparoscopic colorectal surgery she also assisted in training other colorectal surgeons these specialist laparoscopic techniques. She was a locum colorectal consultant for 1 year at Basingstoke, before being appointed as a substantive consultant at Bedford in 2011.
