About me

Training & background:
Mr Georgios Vasilikostas is a leading Consultant General Surgeon in Upper GI, Laparoscopic and Weight Loss (Bariatric) Surgery based in London. He has held a senior NHS appointment at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London since 2009.

Mr Vasilikostas has developed a specialist interest in advanced laparoscopic minimally invasive keyhole techniques including abdominal wall hernia repair, gallstone disease, anti-reflux procedures (Nissen Fundoplication, LINX system and STRETTA), recti divarication, sports hernia and endoscopy.

With more than 25 years of clinical expertise and excellent results, Mr Vasilikostas is highly qualified in all aspects of UGI and weight loss management, including a wide range of medical and minimally invasive surgical procedures such as Allurion gastric balloon, Orbera balloon, endoscopic sleeve, gastric bypass, mini-gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, SADI-S procedure and revision weight loss surgery.

Mr Vasilikostas has pioneered a novel approach to the obesity epidemic that removes the obesity stigma away from patients and recognizes this condition as mainly a chronic metabolic disease. He uses cutting-edge minimally invasive endoscopic and laparoscopic technologies, within an MDT (multi-disciplinary) support team, to provide his patients with complete, tailor-made, combination weight loss management solutions and on-going behavioral and nutritional support.

Mr Vasilikostas is an active member of many prestigious national and international associations including the Association of Upper GI Surgeons (AUGIS), British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO).

His surgical expertise and interest in medical training and education led him to become a faculty member of various training courses at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and St George's Hospital.

Since qualifying, Mr Vasilikostas has completed a number of prestigious surgical fellowships in laparoscopic and weight loss surgery and has worked at some of the UK and the world's most renowned hospitals. Mr Vasilikostas trained at St Pierre Hospital, Free University of Brussels and completed a fellowship in Advance Laparoscopic Minimally Invasive Surgery at the European School of Laparoscopic Surgery, Brussels. He has a strong academic background with a PhD rewarded in 2008 and many peer-reviewed publications, national and international lectures and presentations.
