About me
Dr Amit Gera qualified with distinction from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of medicine in 2000. He undertook his specialist training in gastroenterology in London and South East Thames (2003-2011). He is experienced in all aspects of Gastroenterology and has a particular interest in diseases of the liver.
He undertook a research fellowship at the Liver Unit in King’s College Hospital and gained advanced training in liver disease, viral hepatitis, hepatobiliary medicine, transplantation and critical care. He also provides non-invasive assessment of liver disease including fibroscanning.
Dr Gera has accreditation in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Medicine. He is accomplished in endoscopy and colonoscopy and teaches on colonoscopy training courses. In 2010 he was awarded an endoscopy fellowship by the British Society of Gastroenterology to train in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at The Medical University of South Carolina, USA.
Dr Gera is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. He is the Clinical Lead for Upper GI and Hepatobiliary Cancer and Viral Hepatitis at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Other roles have included Gastroenterology Training Programme Director for the prestigious South Thames Gastroenterology scheme and he currently runs the regional Gastroenterology education programme.
