About me

I am a senior Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. Apart from my clinical role, I have been the Clinical Lead for Endoscopy, responsible for ensuring the provision of a safe, efficient and high quality service for the patients across the four hospitals in the trust. I led the development of the Endoscopy training programme at my trust and as the faculty lead, organised the Endoscopy training courses. I designed and implemented the training program for all Gastroenterology and surgical trainees across the Trust to ensure we provide a high quality of training to meet the needs of our future consultants.

I am an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopist delivering the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP) across Manchester.

I am the Lead Colonoscopist for Bowel Cancer Screening Programme at my trust. My endoscopy performance indicators are consistently amongst the best in the region.

I am the Educator and Development Lead for the NW Endoscopy Training Academy. My role involves leading the development of the training programme for the current and aspiring Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopists from across the North-West.

I am the Lead for the Complex Polypectomy Service at my trust. I lead a team of some of the most skilled endoscopists in the country delivering complex endoscopic treatments. I perform advanced endoscopic therapy for large and high risk polyps, including those with early cancers, using highly specialised skills including EMR, ESD, SSD and EFTR techniques. I train consultant colleagues, not only from the regional hospitals but also from across the country, to help them develop advanced endoscopy skills.

I am a National Clinical Assessor for Joint Advisory Group (JAG) for endoscopy. This role involves visiting endoscopy sites across the country to assess their performance and quality standards and to help improve their endoscopy services.

Before moving to Manchester, I worked for 6 years as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where I had been the clinical Lead for Endoscopy and Gastroenterology. I led several initiatives which resulted in service development at the trust including developing the GI bleed endoscopy oncall system, establishing the Bowel Scope screening at Warrington Hospital and developing a new endoscopy unit at Halton Hospital. I was also the training lead for GI Endoscopy for all the medical and colorectal endoscopist trainees. I developed various local pathways and protocols for management of Gastroenterology conditions which are still in use at Warrington Hospital.
