Research interests

He has been awarded around 6 million pounds grant funding by NIHR HTA for breast cancer and breast reconstruction research. He leads the largest breast cancer surgical research trials in the UK â€“ POSNOC and ATNEC. He leads the BIOSYM breast reconstruction trial. He is the Oncology and Breast Specialty Editor of the Surgery journal (UK). He is the breast research lead for East Midlands.

Awards received

He was awarded the Pearce Gould Visiting Professor in 2024 and Infosys Chair of Oncology in 2022. He received the 2012 NHS Innovation Award (Health Enterprise East) for developing DigiBreast3D a low cost 3D surface imaging system in reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery. He was the co-recipient of the NHS Cancer Innovation Award 2007 for introducing intra-operative sentinel node assessment to reduce the number of second operations for patients needing axillary node clearance.
