About me

I am a Consultant Nephrologist based in Derby with more than 25 years of experience in kidney medicine and have been practising as a Consultant Nephrologist since 2006. I qualified in medicine in Mumbai, India, and completed my specialist nephrology training, including a DM in Nephrology, at the prestigious KEM Hospital in Mumbai. I subsequently undertook further specialist training in Leeds and London before establishing my consultant practice in the UK.
I diagnose and treat all aspects of kidney disease, including chronic kidney disease, acute kidney injury (AKI), high blood pressure, vasculitis, glomerular disease, and interstitial nephritis. I have a particular interest in the early detection and management of acute kidney injury and have been involved in a number of national programmes designed to improve how AKI is identified, measured, and treated across the UK. My research interests focus on the epidemiology of acute kidney injury.
I am experienced in a wide range of kidney-related procedures and have taught these techniques to nephrology trainees throughout the UK and internationally. I am also a strong advocate of home-based kidney therapies, including peritoneal dialysis, where these are appropriate for patients.
Alongside my clinical work, I hold several senior leadership roles within the NHS. I currently serve as Deputy Medical Director and Chief Clinical Information Officer at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. Previous roles have included Clinical Lead for Nephrology Services (2015�2018), Clinical Director for Specialist Medicine (2018�2022), and Deputy Divisional Medical Director for Medicine (2022�2023).
I established the Midlands Kidney Network and served as its Co-Chair from 2020 to 2024. I am also a member of NHS England's Renal Clinical Reference Group and a National Clinical Advisor for Acute Kidney Injury. Previously, I chaired the Think Kidneys AKI Measurement Workstream (2015�2017) and contributed to the development of the national master patient index for AKI data submitted to the UK Kidney Registry.
My approach is always patient-centred. I take time to listen carefully, explain diagnoses and treatment options in clear and straightforward language, and work closely with each patient to develop a personalised treatment plan that reflects their individual needs, preferences, and goals.
