About me
I qualified from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals in 1996. My general medical training was in London and Plymouth, before commencing my Rheumatology training in Bristol and Bath in 2001. After an Educational Fellowship, I completed my training on the South coast before taking up my Consultant post in Bristol in 2006.
My main work is in general rheumatology, where I see patients with all types of arthritis. I have a specialist connective tissue disease clinic, and also work closely with orthopaedic surgeons and dermatologists.
I was Clinical Lead at the Academic Rheumatology Department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary for over five years, where I led a team of Consultant Rheumatologists offering specialist services to the population of Bristol and beyond.
I have a special interest in medical education, both postgraduate and undergraduate. I was Deputy Academy Dean at the South Bristol Academy of the University of Bristol from 2012-2018. I regularly teach medical students, and for many years was on the Specialist Training Committee for Rheumatology at the Severn Deanery, taking responsibility for the training and supervision of future rheumatologists.

Research interests
For 4 years (2011-2015) I chaired the USER Committee at Arthritis Research UK. Through this I was responsible for the allocation of several £million of research funding per year. This ensures that I am at the forefront of the latest research into causes and treatments for arthritis.
In my own department I have an interest in Clinical Audit and Service Developments. I have been responsible for the development and implementation of several patient pathways.
