About me
Mr Ahmed Hamouda is an esteemed Consultant Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon who has 34 years of surgical experience. He was a Consultant Upper GI surgeon at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells for 12 years where he set up a weight loss surgery service. Initially trained in Cairo, Egypt, he holds a Professorship of General Surgery at Ain Shams University where he was awarded a Doctorate Degree exploring advanced modalities in the treatment of oesophageal cancer. In 2001 he was awarded a post-Doctoral fellowship to pursue sub-specialist expertise and training in laparoscopic gallstone surgery including advanced bile duct exploration techniques in a centre of excellence in the UK.
His care is tailored to patients individual health needs and goals, with a clear focus on safe, modern treatment. He is able to provide clear information in simple terms to aid patient understanding and to help improve the patient experience and journey throughout their treatment.
Following a period of Specialist Registrar experience in London where he consolidated his expertise at hiatus hernia repair, fundoplication and keyhole hernia repair, he was awarded a second fellowship for weight loss surgery at a Centre of Excellence (Taunton Hospital). Prior to resigning from the NHS in 2022 to focus on private practice, he was Day Surgery Lead and Surgical Tutor.
He currently leads a Consortium of surgeons and gastroenterologists who provide services to Benenden Hospital in Kent and has established a Bravo capsule wireless pH monitoring service there. He also set up an endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty service at Nuffield Hospital, Tunbridge Wells and remains interested in cutting edge technologies and new services which benefit his patients.
He enjoys sports such as squash and more recently Padel tennis which brings his whole family together in an enjoyable activity.
