About me
Dr Ray Mathew is an experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist with specialist expertise in hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine, as well as advanced interventional endoscopy. He holds a substantive NHS role at the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust, whilst having a Private Practice at Nuffield Health Wolverhampton Hospital.
He trained in the West Midlands and has previously held senior positions at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and the former Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust. During this time, he served as Clinical Director of Gastroenterology, Clinical Director of Endoscopy and Lead Clinician for Cancer. He has also designed and developed three JAG?accredited endoscopy units and continues to play an active role in regional endoscopy and cancer service improvement.
Dr Mathew has a broad clinical practice covering acid reflux, inflammatory bowel disease, liver conditions, irritable bowel syndrome and gastrointestinal cancers. His specialist interests include the management of gastrointestinal cancer, pancreatic disease and bile duct disorders. He is actively involved in clinical research and medical training.
In addition to performing advanced gastroscopy and colonoscopy, Dr Mathew is highly skilled in ERCP, cholangioscopy and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS). He is an accredited endoscopy trainer and a member of the faculty at the Shrewsbury and Telford Endoscopy Training Centre.
He is a member of several leading professional bodies, including the British Society of Gastroenterology, the Royal College of Physicians of London, the British Medical Association, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American Gastroenterological Association.
