About me

I am on the General Medical Council Specialist Register for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and on the General Dental Council Specialist Register for Oral Surgery.

I completed my Dental degree in Dundee, Scotland followed by dental vocational training in the North of Scotland, several junior hospital posts in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Aberdeen, Airdrie (near Glasgow), Scotland, along with sessions in Oral Medicine at Glasgow Dental Hospital. I then completed my medical degree in Aberdeen, Scotland, followed by House Officer posts and then 2 years of basic surgical training. I moved on to Higher Surgical Training in the North West region from 2004 - 2010.

During this time I completed several fellowships; India (Cleft), USA (Craniofacial), Holland (Orthognathic & Facial Deformity), Germany (Trauma & Implants).

I currently work in a Specialist Multi-Disciplinary Team arrangement for Maxillofacial Trauma and Orthognathic/Facial Deformity cases, alongside several different specialties.

I provide services generally across the breadth of the specialty, including Oral Medicine.

I have a specific interest in Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma and Orthognathic (facial deformity) surgery.

I also see patients with facial pain and TMJ disorders, as well as patients with general Oral and Maxillofacial conditions e.g Dentoalveolar Surgery for Impacted Teeth/Wisdom Teeth, Biopsies of Oral Soft Tissue Lesions.

I have a specific interest in Medical Education; in its provision, delivery, and organization. I was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Education in 2014. I have been an Honorary Lecturer and I am now an Honorary Clinical Teacher at the University of Manchester and I am a member of The Faculty of Surgical Trainers plus a member of the Dental Training Faculty, both at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

I have a broad experience in examining at the following levels; BDS, MFDS, MBChB, FDS (Oral Surgery), MRCS, FRCS (Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery).

In terms of positions of responsibility, I am an Educational and Clinical Supervisor, have been Regional Specialty Advisor for Oral Surgery in the North West for the Royal College of Surgeons, England and I am one of the Regional Surgical Advisors for the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. In addition, I am an Advisor for Current Updates, Royal College of Surgeons, England. From May 2020 I have been the departmental Audit and Governance Lead.

I was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Education in 2016 and I was awarded Educator of the year by Pennine Acute Hospitals in 2017 and 2019. I have 69 Publications, 201 Citations on Google Scholar, 17 Published Abstracts, 42 Journal Reviews, 14 Regional Presentations, 41 Invited Lectures, 40 Conference Posters, 9 Conference Presentations and 30 Audit Projects with Presentations.
