About me
I am one of the UK leading experts in diagnostics and treatment of prostate cancer and benign prostatic disease.
I practice in Cambridge at the GenesisCare Diagnostic Centre, the Nuffield Hospital and Cambridge University Hospitals.
My specialist training took place in centres including Guy’s Hospital, Guildford and UCL. I am Professor at the International Medical School in Rome.
For men presenting with symptoms of prostate enlargement or the suspicion of prostate cancer, I offer a comprehensive assessment allowing an individually tailored treatment.
Transperineal Prostate Biopsies using MRI-US fusion and sensor-chip needle guidance (M-TTP)
– I offer this procedure under local anaesthesia with superb accuracy and patient satisfaction, as well as under a general anaesthetic, if necessary.
Having been the first in the UK to offer this most advanced technique to diagnose prostate cancer, I have excessive experience and with our team of surgeons, radiologists and pathologists have contributed with significant publications to the establishment of MRI-based assessment as a gold standard.
The accuracy of his assessment allows me to counsel my patients with high confidence and inform about treatment options.
As part of the team offering the above treatments, I provide
Active surveillance
- Working with the UKs leading pathology and MR imaging experts, I can give confidence and peace of mind to patients who want to avoid unnecessary treatment and side-effects for as long as safely possible.
Brachytherapy for Prostate cancer
– I have extensive experience in brachytherapy. Having learnt this technique at Guildford and Guy’s Hospital I have joined the brachytherapy team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in 2009. Together with my colleague Simon Russell, we can offer a high precision insertion of radioactive seeds with minimal side-effects. This technique also allows application of Focal treatment in suitable patients.
Barrier Hydrogel injection to prevent Prostate radiotherapy side-effects
Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate (HoLEP) for obstruction of the urinary flow
– With the experience of around 1000 HoLEPs since 2007 and I am one of the most experienced HoLEP surgeons in the country.
