About me

Dr Mark Scoote qualified as a doctor from St Bartholomews Hospital, London in 1997 with distinction in the Part 2,3 and 4 final MBBS examination. He undertook post graduate training in cardiology at the London Chest Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, St Bartholomews Hospital and Royal Free Hospital in London. He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist at Colchester Hospital and The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in Basildon in April 2009. Dr Scoote is the Training Programme Director for Cardiology Specialist Training within Essex for Junior Doctors.

Research interests

Dr Scoote was awarded a first class honours BSc degree from The University of London in the Subject of Human Anatomy in 1994. The findings of his research thesis for this degree were published in peer review scientific journals. Dr Scoote was awarded a PhD from the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London 2005. His research thesis was in the field of heart failure and results were presented at international scientific conferences and published in peer review scientific journals

Awards received

Dr Scoote was awarded a British Heart Foundation research grant to complete his 3 year PhD research in Cardiac Physiology and Heart Failure at the National Heart & Lung Institute, Imperial College London.

Having passed the necessary examinations Dr Scoote has been awarded accredited status for adult trans thoracic echocardiography from the British Society of Echocardiography.

Publications

Dr Scoote has had his research findings and/or articles on medical training published in a variety of peer review scientific journals including The British Medical Journal, Heart Journal, Cardiovascular Research, Microvascular Research and the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology.

Dr Scoote has presented his research findings at major national and international scientific meetings including the American Heart Association Scientific Conference, The British Cardiovascular Society Scientific Conference and the International Society of Heart Research Scientific Conference.

Courses offered to GPs

Dr Scoote participates in courses and seminars aimed at local GPs on a wide range of cardiology subject areas organised via the Oaks Hospital, Colchester or the Cardiothoracic Centre, Basildon. Dr Scoote is also able to present lunchtime and evening talks on a wide variety of subject areas to local GP surgeries by prior arrangement. In the last year subjects of talks have included atrial fibrillation, heart failure, valvular heart disease and ECG workshops for GPs.
