About me
Dr Jake Tanguay took his medical degree in Birmingham and completed his training in Clinical Oncology in the West Midlands. He was awarded the Frank Doyle Medal by the Royal College of Radiologists as the highest scoring candidate nationally in the Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologist exam.
He has been a consultant Clinical Oncologist at Velindre Cancer Centre since 2009 with a specialist interest in urological cancers (prostate, bladder and kidney). He has expertise in advanced radiotherapy techniques (including SABR, IMRT, brachytherapy), hormonal treatments, targeted therapies, immunotherapy and chemotherapy. He has a specific interest in individualising treatment to optimise the anticancer effect while seeking to minimise any associated side effects.
He has been the urological team lead at Velindre Cancer Centre since 2015 where he over sees a team of 30 (oncologists, specialist nurses, radiographers, physicists and pharmacists). He is also a member of the National Urology Clinical Steering Group.
He is the Associate Medical Director of Clinical Informatics at Velindre and also national clinical lead for cancer informatics.
He has been an investigator for a number of major national and international trials including immunotherapy in bladder cancer and prostate cancer, SABR radiotherapy for prostate cancer, DNA target agents in prostate cancer, and the internationally renowned STAMPEDE trial.
He is the Welsh national lead for prostate brachytherapy and recently led on the introduction of high dose rate brachytherapy to Wales.
He grew up in Pembrokeshire and currently lives in the Vale of Glamorgan with his family. When not working he is a keen cyclist and hill walker.
