About me

I am a consultant psychiatrist in general adult psychiatry working for both the NHS and private practice. I trained at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. I completed my first degree in Medical Science in 1993. I qualified as a General Practitioner in 1997 and enjoyed a 2 year career in private general practice. I moved to the UK in 1999 where I started my training in general psychiatry as part of the North London training scheme. I completed my higher training in the South East of the country and obtained my membership for the Royal College of Psychiatry in 2006. I have been working as a consultant general psychiatrist with the Kent and Medway NHS Mental Health Trust since 2009. I have been in private practice since 2011 where I have gained extensive experience in assessment, management and treatment of all aspects of mood disorders (depression, bipolar affective disorder and treatment resistance depression), anxiety disorders (general anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, phobias) and stress related disorders. I have a special interest in the assessment and management of individuals with Self harm behaviour, Personality difficulties and Eating disorders. I have therefore developed an integrated approach with local psychologists and psychotherapists in providing an holistic approach in the management of this very specialist group. I have experience in assessment of Autistic Spectrum Disorders (Aspergers and Autism) and work closely with clinical psychologists specialising in these conditions.
