About me

Prof Dr Birgit Gurr has been working as a clinical neuropsychologist in Dorset for 25 years. Her specialty is providing assessments and treatments for people who are recovering from head injury/brain trauma, stroke or have cognitive, emotional, behavioural any other personal difficulties in association with a neurological illness (such as MS, Parkinson’s, Epilepsy etc).
Clinical Neuropsychological assessments and advice can be provided for people with particular difficulties in relation to their neurological, neuropsychological or neuropsychiatric condition (e.g. worries about memory or post-concussion problems).
Dr Gurr has extensive experience in helping people with psychological problems in relation to brain trauma and also with stress-based, i.e. so-called functional neurological disorders. She has been using a Bio-Psycho-Social approach to help people to understand their complex neuro-related health needs and chronic pain disorders (e.g. headaches after brain trauma). This means that she tries to understand people’s health problems by taking their personal situation and wider experiences into account.
Dr Gurr is working within the NHS as a consultant clinical neuropsychologist and clinical lead for the Dorset Adult Neuropsychology and Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service. She is also a part-time Honorary Professor at Bournemouth University and a clinical trainer/supervisor for doctorate trainee clinical psychologists at Southampton University.
Professor Gurr can also offer neuro-cognitive assessments for people with specific problems such as Long-Covid symptoms, Dyslexia assessment, assessments in view of fitness to drive or Mental Capacity etc.
Medico-legal Work: as part of her private assignments, Dr Gurr undertakes medico-legal work for people who require neuropsychological investigations following an accident, assault or medical negligence claims.
