About me
Dr Joel Mawdsley undertook his pre-clinical medical studies at Queens’ college, Cambridge University obtaining a first class Honours degree. He studied clinical medicine at Barts and the Royal London Hospital Medical School, graduating with Honours. From 2005-7 he was a clinical research fellow at the Royal London Hospital, and completed a Doctorate of Medicine on the role of stress and psychoneuroimmunology in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.
In 2008, he took up a Consultant position at West Middlesex University Hospital where he was the clinical lead for inflammatory bowel disease and the training lead for Endoscopy. In 2017 he moved to Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust where he is joint clinical lead for the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Service. He is also President Elect for the gastroenterology section of the Royal Society of medicine and on the committee of the London IBD Forum. He has a broad experience of all aspects of general gastroenterology including upper GI conditions such as dyspepsia and reflux and lower GI conditions including irritable bowel syndrome. He is also well trained in upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy and is an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Conlonoscopist (having passed a rigorous assessment process).
