About me
I qualified with MBBS in 1995 and I have more than 21 years of specialist experience in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. After attaining my MRCP, I completed my Gastroenterology Specialist Registrar training along with sub-speciality Hepatology training from South Thames London Deanery starting with a research job at Croydon University Hospital. The training included 2 years of sub-speciality training in Hepatology at Kings Liver unit and St Georges hospital. During my training, I have been exposed to all aspects of Gastroenterology and I am well- versed with all endoscopic gastroenterological procedures. I have obtained awards for my presentations and have published in peer-reviewed journals. My Hepatology training was at the largest liver transplantation centre in Europe where I gained an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of liver transplantation, Liver ITU and liver disease. After completion of my training, I undertook a senior clinical fellowship job at the centre of Gastroenterology academics, St Marks Hospital and Academic institute.
In October 2009, I accepted a full-time Consultant Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist post at Worthing hospital where I worked till January 2016. During these years, I set-up various new developments. I also held important positions like chair of the gastroenterology journal club, endoscopy training lead, core member of Upper GI and HPB cancer group, Principal Investigator for national trials in gastroenterology and collaborated in various NIHR research portfolio UK-wide trials. Currently, I am working in collaboration with Imperial College on a research project( PRECISION study) and also a member of the South London Clinical Research network. I am a core member of the South London Hepatology Network.
Subsequent to this, I was offered a chance to work as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Croydon University Hospital with a view to setting up several services with the focus mainly on Hepatology. I have been serving as the Hepatology Lead since my appointment here. I have managed to set up liver clinics including aviral hepatitis service. I have setup a FIBROSCAN service a non-invasive test to be made available to all our patients for a more in-depth analysis of liver condition for patients with liver diseases. I have introduced Endoscopic Ultrasound at Croydon University Hospital for better management of diseases affecting the liver, gall bladder and pancreas.. Procedures performed: All types of diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopies. My completion rates are above the required rate for all procedures and my complication rates are below the national average. During my 21 years of experience as a specialist in gastroenterology, I have gained an in-depth knowledge of Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, indigestion, lactose intolerance, small bowel bacterial overgrowth-SIBO, polyps in the gastrointestinal system, bleeding from the gut, gastrointestinal motility issues, swallowing troubles, expert opinion on the management of pancreas, liver, gall bladder conditions and other diet related symptoms, I am able to provide a specific problem list and management plan for these conditions. I take great care in ensuring that any worrying symptoms are dealt with promptly and rule out sinister conditions first and foremost.
Since November 2009, I was approached and appointed to work at the new Endoscopy unit at Royal Marsden Hospital , a flagship tertiary hospital providing cutting edge cancer care.
Finally, I have been practising Gastroenterology and Hepatology as independent consultant both in the NHS and in the private sector since 2009. I spend a lot of time and effort in listening to their actual symptoms and directing them to only the appropriate investigations, but at the same time, getting to the diagnosis and leaving all the patients with a definite diagnosis and a clear and comprehensive management plan. I always focus on a patient empowered and personalized patient approach.
