About me

Vigdis Thorisdottir is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with specialist interest in musculoskeletal conditions affecting the foot and ankle.

She has been a practicing doctor for over 25 years, qualifying from the University of Iceland before moving to the UK to pursue a surgical career.

Miss Thorisdottir did her general surgical training in London before completing her Trauma and Orthopaedic specialty training on the East of England training rotation. She spent 3 years of her specialty training at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge. During that time she worked with Mr. Fred Robinson who sparked her interest in foot and ankle surgery.

She underwent further subspecialist fellowship training at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford under the guidance of Mr. Paul Cooke, renowned foot and ankle surgeon.
Miss Thorisdottir has been a NHS consultant, based at the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds since 2008. She has had an independent practice at St Edmunds hospital since 2010. Her elective work, across both sides, is exclusively foot and ankle surgery.

As part of her NHS work, she delivers general and specialist foot and ankle trauma care.

Miss Thorisdottir prides herself giving patients the time and attention they need to discuss their concerns, putting shared decision making at the forefront of each consultation. Every diagnosis made is carefully explained along with investigations advised and surgical and non-operative treatment options.

She is a full member of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Royal College of Surgeons of England
and the British Medical Association.
